Official launch of “Teaching mathematics to students who are blind or visually impaired” manual

01-01-0001

The manual “Teaching mathematics to students who are blind or visually impaired”  was officially launched on the 13rd of March. Ugandan mathematics teachers from 10 secondary schools and 2 lecturers from Kyambogo University receive the guide from Mrs. Sara Bugoosi, Commissioner Special Needs of the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports and Dr Annemiek van Leendert, mathematics-Braille expert at Royal Dutch Visio.

The manual provides mathematics teachers with skills and knowledge on how to make lessons inclusive for students who are blind or visually impaired. The book provides guidelines for adjustments to the curriculum and teaching methods so that students with visual impairment can also receive good mathematics education. The book contains many links, practical examples and attention to the different materials with which you can teach mathematics to students with a visual impairment. The Braille notation used is Unified English Braille.

A special thanks to the writers team, consisting of Annemiek van Leendert and Ilse Disseldorp from Visio, George Willy Kutosi from Kyambogo University and professional writer Paul Mundy.
